What is Nail Surgery?
Nail surgery is an in-office medical procedure designed to resolve painful, infected, or damaged toenails and fingernails. When conservative treatments like antibiotics or proper trimming fail to fix an issue like a severe ingrown nail, recurring fungal infection, or nail deformity, a minor surgical intervention becomes necessary.
At Kigali Dermatology Center, our dermatologists provide expert, precise care to alleviate pain, clear infections, and restore the health and function of your nails.
How does Nail Surgery work?
The procedure begins with the administration of a local anesthetic to completely numb the affected toe or finger, ensuring you feel no pain during the treatment. Once numb, the dermatologist carefully removes the problematic portion of the nail or the entire nail plate, depending on the severity of the condition.
For chronic ingrown nails, a specialized chemical solution is often applied to the root of the nail to prevent the problem section from growing back. The area is then properly bandaged, and we will provide you with clear aftercare instructions to promote quick and smooth healing at home.
