What is a Skin Prick Test?
A skin prick test (SPT) is a fast, minimally invasive diagnostic procedure used to identify immediate allergic reactions to specific substances: known as allergens. It is one of the most reliable and widely used tools in allergy testing, providing clear, actionable results within minutes.
Skin prick testing is conducted within our Dermato-Allergology department by specialist dermatologists trained in international allergology - ensuring accurate interpretation and a clear pathway to treatment.
How does Skin Prick Test work?
The test is a safe, quick procedure performed entirely in the clinic and is generally more comfortable than expected. It begins with marking a grid on the forearm or back, where small drops of allergen solutions are placed. A fine lancet is then used to lightly prick the skin through each drop, allowing a tiny amount to enter the surface without any injections.
After 15–20 minutes, the specialist checks for reactions, with small raised bumps indicating sensitivities. The results are discussed immediately, and the dermatologist provides guidance on the next steps and treatment plan.
